Biography

 

Ghislain Leroy is considered as one of the most gifted organist of his generation.

Educated at the conservatoires of Lille and Rueil Malmaison, and at the conservatoires of Paris and Lyons, his teachers were François-Henri Houbart, Jean Boyer, Louis Robillard, François Espinasse, Liesbeth Schlumberger and Jean-François Zygel.

Honoured at the international competitions of Kotka (Finland) and Lübeck (Germany), he wins the first Grand Prix of interpretation at the Concours international de la ville de Paris, at the age of 22. Since he has been invited to perform at prestigious internatinal festivals such as le Festival de Radio-France Montpellier, le Festival des grandes orgues de Chartres, Toulouse les Orgues, le Festival d'art sacré de la ville de Paris, Contrepoint 62, La Chaise-Dieu, le Festival de Musica y Danzade Granada (Spain), le Festival de Las Piñas (Philippines).... He has performed in most European countries, as well as Russia and Asia.

As a long-term resident at the Sapporo Concert Hall (Japan), he is both a concertist and a teacher, performing at numerous concerts in Tokyo (Suntory Hall; Opera city; Metropolitan Art Space), Osaka, Nagoya and Kanazawa.

Ghislain Leroy has played with various ensembles and orchestras around the world. Since 2007, in duet with famous trumpettist Romain Leleu, he has enriched in concert the repertoire by the transcription or the creation of original works, being always on the look out for varied and unexpected programmes.

In regards for his profound knowledge of the repertoire and of instrumental styles, Ghislain Leroy is a very appreciated musician, and he likes offering in his programs a whole variety over four centuries of music ; his concerts are regularly broadcast on the radio or on TV (Radio France, Radio Nacional de Espana, Ule 1 Finland, NHK).

From 2016 to 2019, he teaches at the Royal Conservatory, Brussels, Belgium, as an assistant to the organ class in association with Bernard Foccroulle.

Heir to the French Organ School, he is also a staunch supporter of contemporary musical creation, performing the most recent works by Valery Aubertin, Jean-Louis Florentz, Vincent Paulet, Jean-Pierre Leguay and Thomas Lacôte.

In 2022, he take the direction of the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional d’Amiens Métropole.

He has also tenure of the monumental great organ of Notre Dame de la Treille Cathedral in Lille (101 stops), reconstructed by orgelbau Klais in 2007.
